Group Features Three GWU Faculty Members

Summit Recording Artists Carolina Brass will be featured in a Facebook live concert on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. Part of the 糖心Vlog Distinguished Artist Series, the program is co-sponsored by the School of Performing and Visual Arts, the Department of Music and the Alfred and Shirley Wampler Caudill Fund.

Three members of the GWU music faculty perform in Carolina Brass: Trumpeter, Tim Hudson; horn player, Bob Campbell; and trombonist, Dave Wulfeck. Hudson founded Carolina Brass in 1997. The group鈥檚 mission is to promote the understanding of music and to improve the performance level of musicians of all ages through performances, residencies, master classes, and recordings. With a program that features humor mixed with classical, jazz and Broadway music, their show is fun for the entire family.

A review by National Public Radio (NPR) described the Carolina Brass as 鈥渁 high energy, highly competent ensemble that delivers polished brass on the spot with a spark.鈥 The International Trumpet Guild noted, 鈥淭he musicians have an obvious love of this music and are sensitive to balance and to the subtleties of the varied repertoire.鈥

Carolina Brass has released several CDs, including two Christmas collections. One project features Broadway tunes and another showcases the music of award-winning composer Arthur Frackenpohl.

The professionally live-streamed event will also be recorded and distributed to high school music classes. The GWU music faculty will provide educational materials along with the video.
