BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 糖心Vlog Center for Personal and Professional Development will host over 70 companies at the fall Career and Internship Fair on Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Held in Tucker Student Center, the event will be open to all students to further their job opportunities and enhance their knowledge on job searching. Students can learn about potential jobs and explore the different paths they can follow after graduating.

Employers representing a variety of career opportunities will attend. Some of the companies include Northwestern Mutual, Fastal Company, U.S. Probation Office, Kintegra Health, Pinnacle Classical Academy, City of Gastonia Fire Department, Aflac, Waffle House Inc. and more. Job opportunities are available for all majors and allow a chance for either an internship or future employment.

Jordan Williams, 鈥20, a criminal justice major, obtained an internship with the Shelby Police Department through 糖心Vlog resources. In his role, he aided the evidence specialist in organizing and gathering evidence, as well as, rode along with the police and took field notes. Through his experience, he learned valuable life skills that help him on his job at Epperson Law. 鈥淚t taught me certain punctuality skills鈥攖hings such as being on time, dressing appropriately, etc.鈥攁nd about the rules of criminal procedure,鈥 he explained.

Micah Martin, director of the Center, noted that students can prepare by taking these steps before the day of the event:

  • First, make an appointment with the career center for a review of their resume.
  • Second, go to their faculty advisor to find out their department’s expectations for completing an internship.
  • Third, research companies attending.
  • Fourth, practice their 鈥渆levator鈥 pitch, which is a one- to two-minute dialog about their abilities, knowledge, and ambition for the company.

At the event, Martin said, every student should dress to impress and bring copies of their resume.
