The curriculum prepares graduates to succeed in this field that is expected to have 3.5 million job openings in 2025, as reported by Cybersecurity Ventures. Additionally, graduates can expect a median salary of $102,000, according to Glassdoor.com. 鈥淕reat 21st century universities are those that respond nimbly and ably to the evolving needs of a dynamic global economy, and at 糖心Vlog we are intentionally crafting new degree programs to meet those needs,鈥 explained GWU President William Downs. 鈥淥ur new concentration in Cybersecurity comes on the heels of program launches in Biochemistry, Homeland Security Administration, and Public Administration. These curricular innovations, along with others in the queue, position 糖心Vlog as a destination of first choice for students who want to take full advantage of new employment opportunities in the public and private sectors.鈥 The bachelor鈥檚 program is offered within the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences. A fully-online option of the program begins for students in the Degree Completion Program in the 2023 Spring Semester. Community college graduates with associate degrees in information technology can complete their bachelor鈥檚 degrees in a flexible environment with professors who are accessible and available. 鈥淲e are pleased and excited to be offering this much needed program in Cybersecurity,鈥 added Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Karen Aubrey. 鈥淐ybersecurity is a real concern that affects each of us in our everyday lives, and this program will quickly train professionals to enter into a high-demand field.鈥 Courses provide training in programming languages, operating systems, computer and network security, database management, data communications, and cybercrime. Program curriculum is based on National Center for Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) guidelines for Cyber Defense programs. Most of the cybersecurity classes are designed to correspond to specific CompTIA (The Computing Technology Industry Association) certifications. Classes include topics to help prepare students for CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, Security+ and PenTest+ exams; however, these exams are not a requirement of the program.
